Elder & Sister Gerrit W. Gong visit the mission

We can never be the same in the New York New York North Mission after a remarkable experience with Elder and Sister Gong.  We are all changed for the better.  Elder Gerrit W. Gong is a member of the Presidency of the Seventy.  He and his lovely wife, Susan spent 3 days teaching, lifting and inspiring us.  The Spirit was present in abundance.  It was a sacred time we will all cherish.  We love Elder and Sister Gong.

I could not have been more proud of our fabulous missionaries.  They came so prepared to learn.  They all looked so sharp, were confident and filled with desire to become even more consecrated missionaries.  We held devotionals in both the city and upstate followed by ice cream sundaes, which was Elder Gongs request.  He loves ice cream!  HUGE thanks to our Senior Couples who took care of all of the details.  Prior to the evening devotionals Elder and Sister Gong went from district to district where they were introduced to the missionaries.  The district leaders gave each missionaries name, where they are from and a Christlike attribute they have.  It was so fun to listen to these conversations.  We have excellent district leaders who know and love the members of their districts.  We also held Zone Conferences in Manhattan, Kingsbridge and Upstate at the Ossining chapel.  We had beautiful musical numbers from our talented missionaries at each conference.  At the conclusion of Elder and Sister Gongs visit we met for one last meeting with the Mission Leadership Council where we discussed the "therefore, what".  What are we as a mission going to carry forward and do to continue growing and building upon the great missionary work taking place in this part of the world where we have stewardship at this time.

"Go forth with faith to tell the world of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Bear witness he is God's own Son; Proclaim his wondrous word.
Go forth with hope and courage strong to spread the word abroad
that people of all nations are children of our God."
Go Forth With Faith, Hymn 263

We love our "mission" aprons given to us by some special friends!

Elder & Sister Gong asked the missionaries in each zone conference to tell adjectives that describe Dave and I and then verbs that describe our mission.  What an amazing experience it was.  The adjectives are in blue and the verbs in red.  I was not prepared for this and Dave and I both wept as we listened to our missionaries.  They are simply the best!!

We are so happy to welcome President and Sister Potter to the mission.  He has been called to serve as the first counselor in the mission presidency.

On Saturday evening our family had the privilege of going to dinner in the city with the Gongs followed by dessert at Magnolias Bakery.  I am so appreciative to the Gongs for the interest they took in our children, asking them many questions about life in NY, and how they are enjoying the mission, school, the challenges they face, etc.  At dinner Elder Gong even invited each one of them to share their testimony at the devotional.  They all said do you say no to a General Authority!  The next evening was very special to me as a mother to have my 3 teenagers stand before our missionaries and testify of what they know to be true.  I was asked to follow them with my testimony.  You can imagine my emotions were very close to the surface.  I testified that this message they share is all about eternal families.  Baptism is a beginning.  The ultimate goal is to have families sealed in the Temple for time and all eternity.  And for each of us to return to live in the presence of our loving Heavenly Father and the Savior.
