Another transfer has come and gone. It is so cliche but the time really does fly by so quickly. We welcomed 7 new excited, prepared missionaries. We went on FaceTime live again for their arrival but I need to apologize that the video got cut off very shortly after they arrived. The flight was delayed over an hour and after landing sat on the runway for about 30 minutes. Our FaceTime live ended up longer than normal with us waiting and waiting for them to come. They all made it safely and you can see individual pictures below. We enjoyed a wonderful evening together. I was touched by the heartfelt Christlike testimonies born by these missionaries. Recently we have invited the older youth from each stake to join us at these welcome dinners and testimony meetings. We had a few come and it was neat for them to interact with the missionaries and get a feel for mission life.
While transfer moves are taking place we spend the afternoon in the Manhattan Temple with the returning missionaries. It is always so special to be in the temple together. The temple is a place of peace. The spirit of the Lord is present in abundance. I love to go to the temple to have clarity of mind, to feel the love of God and to receive answers to questions or problems. If I put in the effort I often receive impressions and thoughts that come into my mind that I know come from God. It is calming and reassuring to know he knows me. His first word spoken to the Prophet Joseph Smith was his name, Joseph. (JSH 1:17) He knew that young 14 year old boy. He also called Moses by name. I love to read the account in the Pearl of Great Price of the Lord speaking with Moses. (Moses 1:1-8). He repeatedly calls him by name and says "thou art my son." We are literally the sons and daughters of God. We can feel him near often and the temple is his holy house.
I was thinking this time of the wonderful blessing of knowing families can be together forever as they are sealed in the Holy Temple. This ordinance is done by the power of the priesthood which was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith in the Spring of 1829. It is the same priesthood power that was on the Earth at the time of Jesus Christ. This is what Christ meant when he said "Verily I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven". Matthew 18:18
In the Book of Mormon we read about this same power. "Behold I give unto you power, that whatsoever ye shall seal on earth shall be sealed in heaven; and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven; and thus shall ye have power among this people." Helaman 10:7
During the great Apostasy this power was lost on the Earth, but through the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fullness the sealing power has been restored.
It gives me so much peace knowing Dave and I were married and sealed in the Temple. That was a happy day! I am reminded of this each time I attend the temple. I am trying to be true and faithful to my covenants so that I may enjoy the blessings of an eternal family. Its the small and simple things everyday that make all the difference! #smallandsimple. And when I mess up what a gift and blessing the Atonement of Jesus Christ is #dailyrepentance. We do not have to be perfect but we need to be trying...really trying!
If you want more spiritual power in your life and clarity of mind I invite you to Read the Book of Mormon everyday. It invites the spirit in abundance and opens a conduit to heaven. Test it out! Commit to read everyday. I promise you will find answers and have greater spiritual strength to overcome temptation and more JOY in your life! I've tested it countless times. It works!
This was the first transfer where the returning missionaries flew out of White Plains instead of JFK. We were able to have breakfast together before they were out the door for their 10:30 am flights.
