Yorktown & Newburgh Stake Zone Conference & New missionaries

Zone Conferences began this week on Tuesday with the Yorktown and Stamford Zones.
Our training and focus this round of Zone Conferences is on the Book of Mormon.

"We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true.  Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost."
(Introduction to the Book of Mormon, paragraph 8)

I know this to be true as I have put it to the test.  I read the Book of Mormon for the first time on my own when I was 14 years old.  I was challenged by a youth leader, who I really loved and admired, to read the Book of Mormon everyday for a year.  She gave us a little chart to mark off each day we read.  This hung in my room that year and I faithfully marked it off.  Through this I developed a habit of daily scripture study.  I did not have an overwhelming spiritual experience but felt a sense of peace and love each time I read from it.  I have read it countless times since and my faith has grown so much.  I know the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ.  It contains the fullness of his gospel.  It is an amazing gift the Lord has given us and I know we will draw nearer to him as we read from it everyday.

I love having William with us at Zone Conference
I interviewed Elder Davis and made a short 3 minute video to show at the conferences.  I asked him what role the Book of Mormon played in his conversion.  He met the missionaries in college and joined the church 17 days after his first discussion.  He is full of faith!  The Book of Mormon rang true with him from the very beginning.  As he read, studied and prayed about it he received a witness of its truthfulness by the power of the Spirit.  His testimony and faith led him to serve a mission one year after his baptism.  Elder Davis is very loved and respected in the mission for his great faith and example.

Harvey Langi, who recently married our dear family friend, Cassie, stopped by Zone Conference on Tuesday afternoon.  Harvey played football for BYU and recently was picked up by the New England Patriots.  He shared his testimony of the gospel with the missionaries and told them how much he loved serving as a full time missionary.  He reminded them how truly blessed they are to serve and that they will treasure these moments, even the super hard days!

On Thursday Zone Conference was held for the Newburgh and Poughkeepsie Zones.
Elder and Sister Miles started the day with training on automobiles and apartments.

On Friday we met with the new group of missionaries and their trainers at the Scarsdale chapel.  We have had a lot of rain lately but Friday was sunny and beautiful.  The flowers are in bloom and everything is so lovely.  These missionaries are doing great and it is always so wonderful to see them again.

William has fun taking pictures of the Assistants and Office Elders!
