September Zone Conferences

Zone Conferences began Tuesday, September 12, 2017
 at the Newburgh Chapel

A few thoughts that were shared...

"Neither take ye thought before hand what ye shall say; but treasure up in your minds
continually the words of life, and it shall be given you in the very hour that portion
that shall be meted unto every man"
D&C 84:85

"The Holy Ghost cannot bring to remembrance that which has not been learned in the first place"
Elder Dale G. Renlund

"Diligence is steady, consistent, earnest, and energetic effort in doing the Lord's work. The Lord expects you to work diligently-persistently and with great effort and care.  A diligent missionary works effectively and efficiently.  Diligence in missionary work is an expression of your love for the Lord and His work.  When you are diligent, you find joy and satisfaction in your work."
PMG page 121

We did trainings on effective studies, planning and goal setting, using our online tools/technology, and various other items as directed by the Spirit.  Each zone conference ends up being unique and different depending on the needs of the zone.  They are very interactive with the missionaries offering thoughtful comments and experiences.

At the end of each conference we conduct a "therefore, what?" session.
How will we go forward with what we've learned today?

We also conclude with testimonies.  The missionaries in the NYNYN mission bear powerful, simple, testimonies of what they know to be true.  It is always the best way to finish the zone conferences.

As I was driving to Newburgh for Zone Conference it was a beautiful sunny morning.  I was driving along the ridge near Westpoint admiring the beauty and noticing the beginning of the changing of the leaves.  As I dropped down into the valley there was a thick fog.  It immediately changed my mood.  I began to think of it like life.  We can be going along, everything is well and the world seems beautiful but out of nowhere something hits us, a trial, that makes us feel like we are in the fog.  I was pondering these thoughts when I pulled into the Newburgh chapel.  As I walked in I could hear the missionaries singing the opening song.  The words "there is sunshine in my soul today" rang loud and clear.  I had to laugh.  Despite the fog it once again lifted my mood and I was so happy to walk into the meeting and be with the missionaries.

We held this Zone Conference at the Kingsbridge building in The Bronx.  I had a neat experience about an hour into the conference.  Dave asked me to make sure the air conditioning was running so I got up to check it and felt prompted to walk out into the hall.  As I got near the front door I noticed a man coming to the door.  I said hello and asked if I could help.  He said he was new to the area and interested in "knowing about this church".  I talked with him for a moment and then went back into Zone Conference to invite Elder & Sister Richards (an awesome Senior Couple serving in the Kingsbridge Ward) to come visit with him.  They were able to tell him a little more and give him some info about meeting times, etc.  It would be easy to say "coincidence" that I walked down the hall at that moment but I don't believe there are coincidences in the work of the Lord.  We see too many miracles and tender mercies everyday.  The Lord knows his children and has a message for each one of them.  It is pretty cool when we get to be the one to deliver that message for him.
