President Russell M. Nelson

Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he
revealeth his secrets unto his servants the prophets.
~Amos 3:7

How blessed we are to live on Earth at this time, to have the leadership of a living prophet.  I am grateful for our Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson and I sustain him.

As a young missionary in Hawaii I was blessed to have lunch with Elder Russell M. Nelson and his wife, Dantzel.  At the time I was serving on the Island of Kauai in the Hanalei Branch.  President Nelson came to preside over the Kauai Stake Conference.  Following the meeting I stood next to President and Sister Nelson as the congregation sang "Aloha Oe", a traditional Hawaiian farewell song.  I was being transferred the next day and was quite emotional as I had grown to love these people so much.  President Nelson whispered to his wife to put her arm around me and comfort me.  I remember her saying "it's going to be ok, you will love the people in your new area too."

There were 8 missionaries serving on the island at the time, with my companion and I being the only set of sisters.  President Lee, the stake president invited my companion and I to join he and his wife and Elder and Sister Nelson for lunch.  What an experience it was.  Elder Nelson was kind, jovial, asked many questions and was very complimentary of us.  He testified to us of the importance of the work we were doing.

From my journal that day... "Elder Nelson bore testimony that he is a special witness of Jesus Christ. He knows Him and he loves Him.  I felt a sweet confirmation from the Spirit as he spoke that he is truly one of his special witnesses. It was awesome!"

Following that meeting he took time to mail my parents a letter about our visit.  It is a treasured letter in my missionary scrapbook.

He and his 2nd wife, Wendy recently visited us in New York.
Here are some treasured photos from that day.

Missionaries singing "We thank thee, O God, for a Prophet"

I am grateful for the peace and joy the gospel gives me in my life.  God is our loving Heavenly Father.  Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world.  We are given the opportunity to have the Holy Ghost with us at all times as we strive to be worthy and obedient to the commandments of God.  These commandments allow us to have freedom from addiction, guilt, sin, sorrow, regret, fear and bondage.  But at times all of us fall short. We sin.  We fail.  We lose our temper.  We are impatient.  We are unkind.  We make terrible mistakes that hurt not only us but those we love.  Because of Jesus Christ we can repent and be clean again.  We can be free from the burdens that weigh us down.  The Atonement of Jesus Christ bears no scars.  The gospel of Jesus Christ is for everyone.  It is the answer to the problems of this world.  I invite you to do one thing this week to draw nearer to the Savior.  I testify that He will draw as near to you as you allow Him to.

"Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you."
